Bette Packer worked as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) for the Minneapolis Health Department inspecting commercial kitchens, small food manufacturing facilities, groceries, and pools. After retiring from the city, she owned a food safety consulting business, did inspections for clients, taught code mandated food manager certification classes, and developed required food safety plans for schools, including St. Paul and Minneapolis School systems, and for wholesale businesses.

Her mystery novels take the reader behind the kitchen doors into the unique environment of food safety inspections with a murder or two to solve. She has two books featuring Inspector Laura Simonson and Homicide Detective Thomas Garcia: Illusion of Safety and Deadly Revenge.
