Small-Tooth-Dog Publishing

Sean Buvala is an Arizona author, professional storyteller, speaker, and publisher with more than 40 years of experience sharing stories on stages, in classrooms, and around story circles.

Sean and his wife, Michelle, run Small-Tooth-Dog Publishing Group, an independent Arizona publishing company specializing in children’s books, family stories, and books that encourage young readers to think, laugh, and talk together. His own children’s books include Salt and the Sea, The Gecko Is on the Cover, and the newly rereleased DaddyTeller.

When he isn’t writing or publishing books for young readers, Sean works with authors, storytellers, and speakers who want to build sustainable businesses around their creative work. He teaches the communication skills, practical strategies, and real-world lessons that rarely make it into writing school.

After thousands of hours spent performing and teaching, Sean still believes in the simple power of a well-told story: put the right book into the right hands, and something changes.

Salt and the Sea

Salt is a small, brave dog who dives beneath the waves and meets starfish, octopuses, and a shark who isn't quite what he seems.

The rhyming text makes this one a natural read-aloud, and it moves fast enough to hold a young listener's attention from start to finish.

Kseniia Panchenko's colorful illustrations bring the underwater world to life on every page.

The story leans into courage and curiosity, giving kids a gentle model for facing something new or a little scary. Stick around for the twist ending, since Salt's adventure has one more surprise waiting.

The Moon Was Not Happy: Compartiendo El Cielo

The Moon can't shake the feeling that everyone loves his brother, the Sun, more than they love him, and this pourquoi tale explains why he's been chasing the Sun across the sky ever since.

Darice Pollard's illustrations give the story a soft, dreamy feel that fits its role as a bedtime read.

Written in both English and Spanish, it works as a shared story time book or a gentle way to build a second language alongside the first.

The tale gives parents an easy opening to talk about jealousy and feeling overlooked, without turning the conversation heavy.

It's a quiet, short read designed to encourage imagination in your child down at the end of the day.

The Gecko is on the Cover

A sneaky little gecko hides on every page of this bedtime read-aloud, and your child's job is to find her.

Along the way, kids pick up directional words (prepositions) such as on, under, and behind without it ever feeling like homework.

The watercolor collage art gives every spread texture kids want to touch and look at twice. It's a short, cozy book built for repeat reads at bedtime. Stick around for the surprise ending, since the gecko has one more trick waiting.

The Fox and the Crow: Art and Stories Inspired by Aesop

Sean Buvala reimagines a set of Aesop's fables with a wink and a little mischief, giving classic characters like a flattering fox and a haughty hare fresh personality.

Michelle Buvala's hand-cut watercolor and paper collage illustrations turn every page into a small piece of art worth studying.

These fables run a bit older than toddler fare, better suited to families reading together than to the youngest kids.

Each story still carries the old lessons about vanity, trust, and consequence that made Aesop stick around this long.

Read one a night, and you've got a built-in conversation starter about how people and animals actually behave.
