Cocktails at Sunset, A Jayne Stanford Mystery

Readers' Favorite Five Star Review says: "Cocktails At Sunset is a work of cozy and quirky mystery fiction penned by author L. A. Keller and forms the second book in the series of Jayne Stanford Mysteries.

Our charming and clumsy central character, Jayne, gets herself embroiled in the minute details of another murderous mystery when she hears of a co-worker’s relative dying under suspicious circumstances at Sunset Elderly Living Facility. With her powerful memory and total lack of grace in full swing, Jayne is swept up in the investigation, searching for the person who is stealing the final years of the residents, one by one.

What results is a charming, funny ride through interesting suspects and quirky turns of fate. Whilst a far-fetched comedy-mystery won’t suit all readers of this genre, I absolutely loved this mashup of chick lit, murder mystery, and slapstick humor. Jayne is a delightful would-be sleuth whom readers can always relate to, never alienated by her deductions and always charmed by her attitude.

L. A. Keller brings her to life with compelling, zippy dialogue and a bright narrative style that includes readers in her thought processes and detail-spotting. The setting was also masterfully crafted for full comedic effect, with a hilarious cast of characters at the old folks’ home and a really amusing plot twist that brings about the answer.

Overall, Cocktails At Sunset is a well-crafted and highly satisfying murder mystery with plenty of frivolity and fun. Highly recommended for those readers who love to smile from cover to cover." At the Sunset Elderly Living Facility, they say the residents are like family, but in this home, people are dying before the sun goes down.

Server-not-so extraordinaire and self-described home shopping pro, Jayne Stanford spends much of her tips as a server covering the cost of the glassware she breaks. Luckily, what she lacks in gracefulness, she makes up with her uncanny ability to remember odd details. When her co-worker’s uncle dies suspiciously at Sunset, and his aunt goes missing in search of the truth, Jayne becomes entangled in the lives of the residents.

Chaos clings to her like caramel on a sticky bun and her involvement at Sunset brings the crisis to a boil. The residents are in peril and time is running out. What does the murderer have to gain? Why would someone want to kill seniors? Jayne is determined to find out who it is before another person is shortchanged on golden years. The proof may just be in the pudding.

A tete-a-tete with the wait staff wasn’t listed on the menu, but that never stopped Mayor Franklin McArthur from ordering ala carte.

Jayne Stanford is just one of the many desserts he’s tried to sample. When he turns up dead, after a private party Jayne worked, all the evidence points to Jayne as the murderer. Her life begins to unravel faster than you can say “Order up”.As clumsy as a cowboy on a three day drunk, Jayne has never been the perfect waitress. But her knack for remembering quirky details about the guests she serves has kept her a few tips away from the unemployment line.

Now she has to put those skills to use or wind up spending her days waiting tables in prison. As Jayne embarks on a hunt for the person who set her up she must rely on her best friend, Bailey, to painstakingly piece together the clues.

Who was in the black Hummer? Why would someone want to kill a lecherous old fool like the Mayor? What does the key open? Should Jayne take a chance with her heart and trust, Jonas? The closer she gets to the truth, the more determined the killer is to make Jayne the “Catch of the Day.”

Reunion in the Desert

Quinn Goode, returns to her family’s ranch in Wickenburg, Arizona, seeking refuge after a broken heart derails the life she thought she wanted. Back on the ranch, Quinn hopes the familiar rhythms of hard work, wide skies, and her grandmother’s steady presence will help her mend. What she doesn’t expect is to come face-to-face with the boy who once held her heart—and now threatens to claim it again in ways she never imagined.

Colton Carson was once a world champion rodeo rider, a man whose life revolved around grit, glory, and the roar of the crowd. One reckless decision, however, cost him everything—his career, his confidence, his family, and his sense of self. Left physically and emotionally scarred, and working to overcome an addiction, Colton retreats from the spotlight and lands at the Goode ranch, carrying his regrets as heavily as his injuries.

As Quinn and Colton reconnect, their shared history ignites a powerful attraction neither can ignore. But desire alone isn’t enough. Both must confront their pasts—Quinn’s lingering heartbreak and insecurities, and Colton’s shame and self doubt—if they hope to build something lasting. Set amid dusty corrals, open pastures, and quiet desert nights, the novel captures the intimacy of small-town life and the fast-burning intensity of love earned, not given.
