Eleanora Ioffe grew up in Crimea and immigrated to the United States in 1977. Her memoir, An Immigrant’s Song: On Becoming Myself, grew out of a desire to preserve her family’s history but became something unexpected: a search for identity, belonging, and the hidden connections between childhood and choices made in adult life. Her writing combines tenderness with unsparing honesty and always includes a healthy dose of humor.
Eleanora has always believed in exploring the possibilities life offers and undertaken a variety of pursuits. She has studied classical ballet, ballroom dancing and Argentine tango; she is a certified yoga teacher; and she has been pursuing her dream of becoming a pilot. She is a curious explorer of the world, always planning her next adventure.
She lives in Phoenix, Arizona and has “four kids:” her daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. She reinvented herself as a memoirist in the past year, publishing her first memoir in May 2026, and is now busy working on her next book, a memoir of a very different kind.

With wit, honesty, and unsparing self-reflection, it moves between pre-revolutionary Russia, the Soviet Union, and the immigrant experience in the United States, as it follows one woman’s quest to understand where she came from and how the past continued to shape her choices, relationships and sense of self.
It is a story of family legacy and reinvention, ambition and disappointment, resilience, and the unexpected clarity that can come only from looking back.
