Her writing has garnered distinctions and awards including finalist for Texas Institute of Letters’ Jesse H. Jones Best Book of Fiction Award; Cornell University's Philip Freund Prize in Creative Writing; gold medals at the International Latino Book Awards; a Pushcart Prize “Special Mention”; and a “Reading Notable” for The Best American Non-Required Reading.
